3. How do I choose the right size of ToeGrips® for my dog?

Slipping on smooth floors is a serious problem for many dogs – especially as they get older. Choosing the correct ToeGrips® size is the key to helping them stand and walk safely again. Here's how to determine the right size quickly and reliably.

What methods are available?

There are two ways to determine the correct size:

Estimating the ToeGrips® size based on breed and weight is possible, but less reliable due to many individual differences from the standard. If you have trouble measuring the nail circumference, you can start with the breed or weight classification. If the size turns out to be too large or too small, you will need to adjust it accordingly.

Conclusion: Measuring the nail circumference is the most accurate method for determining the correct size.

Tip

Please check whether your dog's nails might be too long before measuring the nail circumference and again before applying the ToeGrips®. If necessary, trim the nails to the correct length first, and only then measure the circumference.

Measuring Nail Circumference

ToeGrips® Guide: Measuring Nail Circumference

1. Wrap a non-stretchable thread (e.g. cotton) around the nail as shown in the image.

2. Mark the point where the thread overlaps with a pen. Make sure the mark is visible on both sides of the thread.

3. Repeat the measurement on all nails of one front paw and all nails of one hind paw.

4. Lay the thread flat and use a ruler or measuring tape to measure the length between the two marks.

5. Use your results to select the correct size from the sizing chart.

Some dog breeds fall into more than one ToeGrips® size category. That’s why it’s important to check both the weight and the breed in the size chart. If your dog is overweight or underweight, base your size selection on your dog’s ideal weight.
